In 2019, UNESCO established the 26th of November as World Olive Tree Day. Olive tree cultivation contributes to economic and social development while protecting the environment. Its fruit is a source of nourishment and a key ingredient in the Mediterranean Diet. Indeed, olive oil’s health benefits, therapeutic properties and nutritional virtues have been amply recognised. The International Olive Council is appealing to governments and institutions worldwide to choose the olive tree as our planet’s protector.
